Playing Games at work?
October 2011
A week or so ago, I had the opportunity to sit through our Implementation Bootcamp course. It’s currently the follow-up course for our partners and employees who have already taken the Foundations and SysAdmin courses. One of the highlights of the week was midway through when we were given the opportunity to go through a simulation created by G2G3.
We went through their Polestar ITSM game which was recently listed as one of the top 25 ITSM simulations in the industry. This half-day event gives students the chance to experience the behavioral and process issues faced by IT organizations.
In this simulation, we were "hired on" by a fictitious company called Polestar. They run several online retail businesses and our class was given the task of maintaining various aspects of their IT organization. We were split up into several teams ranging from first level support all the way up to the CIO. During the game, all kinds of issues came up and we had to figure out how to best resolve them using the tools we were given.
Here's a screenshot of the dashboard that monitored activities across the company:

The unique thing about the simulation conducted at ServiceNow is that we actually start utilizing our own product during the 2nd round of the simulation. G2G3 conducts similar type games for our competitors but they don’t ever actually try to use their products because it would be too difficult to set it up and integrate.
